You would think it would be easy to change up what you’re doing when it’s just a blog realignment, especially when all the signs say it’s the right thing to do. As it turns out, because I’ve been working my current schedule for a better part of four years, I had a very hard time getting my head around a new posting schedule.
I likened this same feeling to a post I wrote a very long time ago called Swimming Up Stream. The biggest conundrum was what kind of schedule would be best and what form it should take. After much discussion and counsel from my team, this is what we decided would be our best first steps.
Blog Realignment Plan
Wine is by far my most popular category when it comes to traffic. The part we need to work on is to encourage a better click-through and conversion rate. That can only happen through experimentation and trial and error. This activity will be hardly noticeable to my readers, however, behind the curtain is where all our experimenting will occur. What will be obvious to my readers is that all my wine posts, for now, will happen on Thursday.
Food is the second most favored subject along with my Vector Drawing Tutorials (more on this later). I’ll continue working on my recipes and photography but with a twist. The food posts (for now) will publish on Tuesday. At times, I’ll suggest a wine or beverage pairing with each food post. My plan is to showcase fully a wine varietal or beverage that would be a good choice on Thursday. Along with my current photographs I take for each recipe, I may include a drawing of the primary ingredient. For example, let’s say one of the main ingredients is mushrooms, I would add a few images of different mushrooms in that post.
My Vector Drawing Tutorials are almost a tie to my food posts, losing by only a very slim margin. My drawings will not go away; we plan on moving them to my other website – SusanPCooper.com. From there, I plan on continuing to offer my vector drawing tutorials, with the addition of vector drawing tips and ultimately my interactive vector drawing products. We have much to do there, so stay tuned.
Lastly are My Stories. As part of this blog realignment, my stories aren’t going away. You just won’t see them in the same regularity. What that means is you will see a story pop up now and then when the mood strikes.
As I become accustomed to this new schedule, we’ll be offering an explanation of all the changes and a tour of all the new stuff we’ve done.
While we work on this blog realignment, we ask for your patience and understanding. In the next few weeks we should be into a groove with this new schedule along with the planned fine tuning of the website functionality, so stay tuned.
