Ok, it’s been one of those attitude adjustment weeks. So I garbed one of my tried and true wines, Delicato Merlot, to help ease the pain of having my desk in for repairs.
Delicato Merlot
I found this wine a long while back, and it has been a favorite of mine (and others) for a very long time. All I can say is Delicato Winery produces a great Merlot. It is a household favorite. In fact, I have a few friends who love to visit their tasting room while they’re visiting the Sacramento area.
Gasparé Indelicato founder of Delicato Wines emigrated from Italy to California in the early 1900’s. Growing grapes was in his family and had been for many generations. In 1924, Gasparé planted his first grapes in Manteca California, mainly to sell to other vineyards and individual wine producers.
From the very beginning, with skill and much hard work he produced such quality grapes that he had more orders than he could fulfill. Following the prohibition and the resulting difficult times, Gasparé made the decision to turn a portion of his grapes into wine in 1935.
From very humble beginnings, Gasparé and his family took turns hand pressing a portion of their grape to produce their first vintage. This ultimately resulted in establishing their reputation as one of the leading winemakers in America. The legacy of the quality, the Indelicato family winemaking practices continues today as the current generations lead the way to bigger and better things. The family is devoted to their winemaking heritage, environmentally sensitive winegrowing practices, and economically sustainable principles.
The Delicato Winery (DVW) holdings are some of the most diverse and desired vineyards in California. Their vineyards range from San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey wine region to Clay Station located in Lodi. They current have or partner with over fourteen different labels. One of these labels is La Merika, one of my favorites.
This is what the winemaker has to say about their Delicato Merlot:
“Delicato Merlot 2010 offers aromas of red and black cherries with a touch of sweet herbs. Jammy, bright cherry flavors coupled with toasted vanilla, balanced acidity, and plush tannins round out this medium-bodied wine, for a smooth, juicy finish.
This wine pairs perfectly with grilled tri-tip, pan-fried skirt steak and barbecue pulled pork sandwiches”
You can find this Delicato Merlot at Wine.com, Sprouts Market, CostPlus World Market and occasionally at BevMo’s and many more wine outlets. The good news is you can call the winery, and they will help you locate where to find it, or they will ship a selection to you. The price is good enough to buy a case.
This Delicato Merlot is a favorite of ours. In fact, Delicato Wines are a staple in our wine chiller and are often used on many occasions. They are dependably good and very reasonably priced.
Time for a glass…
