Blackstone Merlot: #Wine

by Susan P. Cooper · on Jan 4, 2015 · 13

This is a delectable Merlot from Blackstone Winery.  This was a recommendation from a reader.  When I tried it I totally agreed.  This is a great wine from Blackstone Winery to share over dinner with friends.

Blackstone Merlot

Blackstone Merlot, findingourwaynow.comI had a bit of trouble finding out much about this winery. Nevertheless here is what I’ve learned. Blackstone Winery and tasting room is located in the Sonoma Wine Region just north of Kenwood on Highway 12. Their goal has been to produce artisan wines for everyday use. To that end they have accomplished a smooth, flavorful wine with rich fruit flavors thus making this Merlot, and I quote, “One of America’s favorites.”

Blackstone Merlot, findingourwaynow.comOver time, the desire and passion for consistent, balanced wines was expanded to new varieties, which included Cabernets, Zinfandels, Malbecs, Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Grigios to name just a few.  To accomplish all this they source wines grapes from many premier growing regions throughout California to help maintain the consistency that is important to the Blackstone Winery label.

This is what the winemaker has to say about their Blackstone Merlot:

“Our Blackstone Winemaker’s Select Merlot, a variety that shone brightly for the vintage, was very late to ripen but has big, rich color and full, ripe flavors, and soft round textures with nice, mature length.

Blackstone Merlot, findingourwaynow.comThe wine opens with blackberry, currant, and plums on the nose, with flavors in that same dark-fruit range. The full tannins and rich, supple mouth are very lush and the wine is big and bold, with lots of smoky, toasty oak and a long, lingering finish.

Merlot is one of the five principal grape varieties of Bordeaux and the most widely planted. It is capable of producing some of the highest priced, most sought after elegant wines in the entire world but Merlot has captured the attention of the everyday wine consumer because of its fresh, ripe fruit appeal.”

You can find this wine at wine.com, totalwine.com, Costco, bevmo.com and CostPlus/World Market many wines stores or wine purveyors.

This inexpensive Blackstone Merlot is a particularly fun wine to add to any table. If you run across this wine, give it a try and have a bit of fun.  If you do, I’d love to hear your thoughts about this wine.

Time for a glass…
