Robert Mondavi Winery Trio Of Wines
I’ve said it before, I make no secret of the fact that I am a huge fan of any of the Mondavi wines. So as you can imagine I was thrilled to receive this trio of wines. Regardless of their generosity, my thoughts and opinions regarding this trio of wines are truly my own.
The early Mondavi family emigrated from Italy and settled in Missouri where Robert Gerald Mondavi was born. In search of better opportunities, the Mondavi family along with young Robert moved to the small village of Lodi, California. From there, the family established a successful fruit packing business primarily shipping grapes back east for the home winemaker. Robert thrived in the Lodi area gaining a great passion for wine grapes and the wines that they produced.
Not long after Robert Mondavi graduated from Stanford University, he joined his father and brother in the family business. At that time, the family had just expanded their business by acquiring the Charles Krug Winery located in St. Helena, California. Later on, following a serious disagreement with the family, Robert parted from the family business starting his own winery in Oakville, California, the first major winery built in the Napa Valley wine region. His main intention in establishing his new winery was to compete successfully with many of the fine European wines.
Robert Mondavi was very successful achieving his desire to develop a number of premium wines that continue to earn the respect of wine connoisseurs and vintners on a national and global basis. He then went on to build the Mondavi Woodbridge Winery in Lodi, California becoming the leader of many well known popular-premium wines. If that wasn’t enough, Robert entered into a joint venture with Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild to create what we now know as the Opus One Winery. Many of the joint ventures Robert Mondavi established in Europe, South America and Australia in the past still exist today.
Even though Robert Mondavi is no longer with us, you can still sense the passion he had for the wines he produced in the wines that still bear his name today.
The Robert Mondavi Winery and tasting room is located between Oakville and Rutherford in Napa Valley, California. An interesting fact is they were one of the first wineries to offer winery tours and wine tastings which now includes a great number of culinary arts and art programs. It is well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
This is what the winemakers have to say about the delectable Robert Mondavi Winery trio of wines:
