We are kitchen gadget and cook book lovers and collectors. In a recent post I wrote a story about my husband’s pan fetish in A Man And His Pan. To be honest we both like to try out different kitchen gadgets. Some of the gadgets we try are deemed more successful then others. When we saw this Breville Mini Pie Maker on Amazon, of course we had to have it. We purchased it online, along with the pie lifter and the recommended cookbook.
When it arrived we couldn’t wait to give it a try.
Breville Mini Pie Maker: Product Review
Our first attempt was not a great success. We were in a hurry and didn’t take the time to read the instruction carefully and to think it though. We also didn’t check the pies a few times through the cooking process as the instructions recommended. The end result was not very good. The pies came out a little burned. They still tasted good but the mini pies didn’t look as pretty as they could have. Our next attempt was a hugh success.

Here is what we learned:
- Read and follow the instructions … DUH! They are pretty simple but very important.
- The pie lifter is a “must have” tool for the Breville Mini Pie Maker. It is very difficult to lift the pies out of the Breville mini pie maker without it.
- We found that keeping the Pillsbury pie crust pieces cold until right before use was very helpful and guaranteed our success.
- The biggest thing we found was to make sure to check the cooking progress of the pies about halfway through the suggested cooking time.
- You can mix the pie fillings ahead of time before you start assembling the pies in the pie maker. Things go much more smoothly when you do this.
- The last and most important thing we found was, more often the not, we needed to shorten the cooking time by about 2 minutes for perfect results.
It is a really fun and easy gadget to use that also has other uses. We have made both savory and sweet pies with great results. We have enjoyed using this gadget with our family and friends. We often have them pitch in to make the pies, offering great fun for everyone.
