Who doesn’t like Rice Crispy Treats? They are always a big hit especially with kids, big and little alike. There really isn’t much not to like about them, especially when you dip them in chocolate.
What has surprised me is when someone asks for my Rice Crispy Treats recipe. It’s been around for many years, and it’s really not a big secret. Nevertheless, here is my recipe or how I go about making my rice crispy treats.
Rice Crispy Treats Dipped in Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 6 tablespoons good quality salted butter
- 20 oz. good quality marshmallows
- 12 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
- Prepared tempered chocolate
- Colored sprinkles or candy decorations of choice
Directions:
Coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch nonstick baking pan with butter and set aside.
In very large 9-quart nonstick saucepan placed over low heat, slowly melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and creamy. Remove the melted marshmallows from the heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal. Quickly stir until the cereal is well coated. Using a buttered spatula or buttered hands press the mixture into the prepared pan. Let the Treats rest until completely cooled. While the Treats are cooling, prepare the tempered chocolate. Turn out the Treats onto a cutting board and cut into 2″ squares with a sharp knife. Dip the end of each square in the tempered chocolate and place on a large sheet of waxed paper. Place whatever decorations you desire on the chocolate coating while still melty. Allow to cool and harden. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for several days.
Notes: The key to making greatRice Crispy Treats is to take your time melting the butter and marshmallows. Rushing this part could result in burning the butter and scorching the marshmallows. If either of these things happen, the taste will not be that great. Do not even consider using anything else but real butter; any substitute will not give you great results.
Sometimes I’ll cut small strips of the treats and place a smear of chocolate between the strips and cut them into, what I call, Rice Crispy Treats Bites.
Always use fresh marshmallows, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal and good quality butter.
You can freeze the Rice Crispy Treats in an airtight container in layers, separating each layer with waxed paper, for up to a month and a half. To serve, allow the treats to come to room temperature for about 20 minutes.
So there you have it, my version and process when making Rice Crispy Treats. They always come out perfect and never last much longer than a day or two. Enjoy.
