Mark West Winery – Pinot Noir For The People: #Wine

by Susan P. Cooper · on Feb 22, 2015 · 26

I’ve written about this wine before, but I just had to revisit it. We were out to dinner with friends. The server recommended a Mark West Pinot Noir, and again I found it to be a delight.  As you would expect, this wine went well with the entrees.  Again I went in search for this wine and found it still to be a nicely priced wine. Yeah for me.

People“

This Pinot Noir is produced by Mark West Winery a Constellation Brands company. Mark West Winery, originally established in 1978 in the Sonoma Wine Region, had one great desire. That desire was to create the most remarkable California Pinot Noir they could at an affordable price. To do that, it took patience, hard work, and passion for making good wine. What I love about these winemakers intent was their dedication to producing wine for “everyday people.”  Their whole philosophy was built around producing good wine at a reasonable price and one that anyone can afford. From the vineyard to the barrel and then to the bottle they have achieved their goal.

Even thou Mark West is now owned by Constellation Brands, they have continued with that same philosophy. The best part is; we have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of a winemaker’s labor, both past and present.

Springtime just happens to be my favorite time in this area. If you in that area, pack a picnic basket and enjoy the area’s ambiance, along with the many great wine offerings that are available.

This is what the winemaker has to say about this delight:

“Great grapes and the winemaking talents resulted in a wine that enjoys enticing aromas of dark berries including boysenberries and raspberries. There’s a sweet entry of brown sugar and molasses followed by a bit of orange zest and coriander. The core of the wine tastes of fleshy plums with a spicy note of cardamom from oak aging. Reminiscent of our early Edna Valley Pinots, this medium weight wine is silky smooth but with a solid fruit center.“

You can find this wine at bevmo.com, wine.com, totalwine.com and just about any good wine purveyor.

This Mark West Pinot Noir, once again, was a very nice surprise, and to have found it at an excellent restaurant. It’s a wine you will definitely want to hunt down and give a try.  When you do, you will find yourself putting it on your favorites list.

Time for a glass…
