Well everyone is saying it, and we all hope to make it happen. What is that? Why our New Year’s resolutions for improving our health through weight loss. As for me, I would also include improving my calcium intake for better bones in the coming years… :-).
Back before the holidays, I had an uncomfortable surprise after gaining the results of my bone density test. It showed I was nibbling around the edges of thinning bones. With that as a potential health issue, for me it’s all about calcium and improving my odds of not having an issue with osteoporosis in the future.
Yoplait Light & My New Year’s Resolution
I’ve always loved yogurt in just about any form, and I eat it every day. Luckily yogurt is packed with the good kind of calcium. Now I have a serious reason to increase my yogurt consumption. Without the added calories in Yoplait Light yogurt I can do just that. I love that @Yoplait Light is only 90 calories, is 0% fat, has 15% calcium with no aspartame, AND it comes in 20+ flavors. Armed with that information, I thought of some delicious ways I can (at the very least) improve my odds of preventing osteoporosis now and into the future. SO off I went to the grocery store to purchase what I needed.
Yoplait Light is great all by itself but why not up the ante by turning it into a dessert parfait, a breakfast side dish or main entree. So here is what I’m doing. I selected the fruit versions such as Yoplait Light Strawberry, Blackberry, Red Raspberry or Blueberry Patch for just a few of my Yoplait Light Snack Hacks ideas.
Now I’d like to share two of my recipes/ideas.
My Yoplait Light Dessert Parfait
(Or main breakfast entree)
Ingredients: Makes one healthy serving (A meal in itself)
- 1 6oz container Strawberry Yoplait Light
- ¼ cup sliced strawberries
- 4 heaping tablespoons of Granola of your choice
- Garnish: A few whole strawberries cut in half
Directions:
In an 8 oz. high-sided decorative dessert dish or glass, place 2 heaping tablespoons of granola, place half the sliced strawberries on top. Next spoon on a nice portion of the Strawberry Yoplait Light. Repeat to create another layer. Garnish the top with a half of a strawberry. Serve immediately.
This parfait is not packed full of calories, and the taste is sweet and very satisfying.
Notes: You may not use the entire container of yogurt. The amount you use per layer is entirely up to you. You may use any fruit flavor yogurt of choice with a complementing fruit to create these parfaits. Be creative and have a little fun with it. You will love it and so will your family and friends.
My Afternoon or Late Night Snack
Ingredients: Makes 2 snacks or servings
- 1 6oz container Strawberry Yoplait Light
- ⅔ cup sliced strawberries
- Garnish: A few chopped lightly roasted salted almonds
Directions:
Place ⅓ cup of the sliced strawberries in a glass bowl, place ½ of the container of Strawberry Yoplait Light on top and sprinkle with almonds. Devour immediately without guilt.
Notes: Again, you may use any fruit flavor yogurt of choice with a complementing fruit to create this delightful snack. I would encourage you to have a bit of fun and be creative. Oh and do share the other serving with your favorite someone.
I have many more ideas but alas I ran out of Yoplait Light. Why? I ate them all before I had a chance to create any more. Who knows, I may show you some fun and creative ways to use this yogurt delight in the coming weeks.
