Story Winery Chenin Blanc is a wine I’ve had for quite a while and I decided it was high time that I give it a try. It was a hot day, I was working in my garden and I thought this would be a marvelous way to end the day. It was delightfully refreshing and complemented my cheese plate nicely.
Story Winery Chenin Blanc
Located in the Amador Wine Region at the foothills of the Sierra Mountains, Story Winery is not very far from where we live. It is a boutique winery that was one of the very first in the Amador wine region, primarily known for their Zinfandels. It just happens to be one of my favorite Zinfandels. In fact, one could argue that it is one of the best in the area.
Bruce and Jan Tichenor, although not the first to own and operate Story Winery, have been the current owners and vintners for the past 20 years. The topography, climate, and soil composition where they’re located make it an ideal location to grow zinfandel grapes. The owners practice dry farming which means they depend solely on Mother Nature and the rainfall she provides. All of the wine they produce is an estate wine, meaning it is grown, produced and bottled on their property.
When the weather is good and friends are visiting I’ll pack a picnic and we will head out to the Amador Wine Region. One of our “must stops” is the Story Winery. You can’t beat their location. The views from their tasting room overlooking the valley below are amazing. The very first time I visited the winery I had taken the back road and thought I was lost. The second time I visited I was better informed and used the preferred road (still a charming one lane country road) to get to their tasting room. It is a beautiful area, so it’s not something anyone would ever mind doing.
This is what the winemaker had to say about this Story Winery Chenin Blanc:
” Chenin Blanc, the special wine of the Loire Valley has now found a new home in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountain range. These estate grown grapes produce a spicy, light wine that is worthy of the variety’s heritage. “
Unfortunately, this wine is not always available. You can find this Story Winery Chenin Blanc occasionally on their website, at totalwine.com and any good wine purveyor. If you’re interested, a good choice to try is their Zinfandels which can also be found on their website or totalwine.com.
If you’re in the area and have a chance, please be sure to stop by this charming boutique winery. Bring a picnic and stay awhile. You’ll not be disappointed.
Time for a glass…
