Orange Maple Syrup is the most straightforward recipe ever. It’s a fantastic silky orange flavored syrup that’s to die for.
It’s also something I love to serve with my orange marmalade cream cheese stuffed French toast, a recipe that will appear in the very near future.
Orange Maple Syrup
Ingredients: Makes 2 cups
- 2 cups pure Maple syrup
- 1 large orange
Directions:
Scrub the outside skin of the orange to remove any wax or dirt. Using a vegetable peeler, zest the orange into large strips. Make sure to avoid the pith or remove it as best you can. Pour the maple syrup into a small saucepan and heat until hot, but do not boil. Turn off the heat and stir in the strips of orange zest. Allow the zest to steep in the maple syrup until cooled, infusing the syrup with an orange flavor. Once the syrup has cooled, strain it into a pitcher or bottle and serve, or refrigerate for a later time.
Before serving, warm the syrup a bit and pour over pancakes, waffles, French toast or whatever strikes your fancy.
Notes: Don’t skimp; use a good quality pure maple syrup. I like to use the zest of Valencia oranges for their tender skins. If the available oranges are small, use two. Why avoid the white pith of the orange? It imparts a bitter, unpleasant taste. You can easily double the recipe if a larger quantity is needed.
Now I ask you, how easy is that? Why not find some pure maple syrup, an orange or two and make a batch of this awesome Orange Maple Syrup.
One last thing, don’t forget to keep an eye out for my “Orange Overnight French Toast” that goes so well with this wonderful syrup.
Time to eat…
