This summer, it’s been a difficult time in the California foothills with the many fires that have destroyed towns, homes, forests and wildlife. To say it’s been heartbreaking is an understatement.
Many areas were spared and are still intact, including many of the wineries that exist in the foothill areas. One of these wineries is Sera Fina Cellars at Cinque Wines Tasting Room.
Sera Fina Cellars
Cinque Wines Tasting Room
Cinque is an Italian word that means five, referring to the five generations of the Scotto family. The Scotto family has been creating wines in the Amador Wine Region under five different labels for over 60 years. It’s still a family owned and operated winery with a tasting room located in Sutter Creek, California.
Their winemaking tradition started back in Italy in the mid-1800’s by making wine for their personal enjoyment and selling any excess to their neighbors and friends. Ultimately some of the family immigrated to Brooklyn, NY and opened Scotto Liquor Store, still in operation today. There they continued their wine tradition by producing and selling crocks of homemade wine called “Villa Armando vino Rustico.” Villa Armando, still available, is considered to be one of the oldest wine brands in the U.S.
It’s now many years later, a move west with the purchase of a more wineries and here they are in the Amador Wine Region with a charming tasting room on the main drag in the historic gold rush town of Sutter Creek. Here you can find and taste each of their five labels: Sera Fina Cellars, Dancing Grape, Scotto Family Wines, Regio, and of course Villa Armando. One of the wines I enjoyed was their award winning Sera Fina Cellars Barbera.
This is what the winemaker has to say about their Sera Fina Cellars Barbera:
“Our Sera Fina Cellars Barbera – Black cherries, exotic spices, and scents of vanilla blossoms…you may find all of these in the nose and taste. Pair with Italian sausage, tri-tip, pasta with meat sauces, cheeses, and smoked nuts.“
Sera Fina Cellars Wines can be found on their website, occasionally on amazon.com, or in some wine stores or fine wine purveyors. Just ask.
When it comes to roaming around the foothills of the Sierras and discovering these amazing wines and wineries, it’s no wonder why I love where I live. Sera Fina Cellars at the Cinque Wines tasting room was one I just happened on as we were out and about along the Gold Rush Trail CA, Highway 49, an adventure in its own right. If you ever find yourself in the area, do yourself a favor, stop by and try some of Sera Fina Cellars wines at Cinque tasting room.
Time for a glass…
