We were wandering around the Napa Valley for no particular reason. It was early morning and the light was stunning. As we traveled the roads, we happened on the Silverado Winery. We had been there before and had fond memories of that experience. When we came home, I decided to pull out a bottle of their Estate Sangiovese I’d stored in my wine fridge. It was as special as ever, so here I am showcasing a great wine and winery.
Silverado Vineyards Estate Sangiovese
Silverado Vineyards began in the mid-1970’s when the Miller family purchased land in Yountville, quickly followed a year later by the purchase of the Silverado Vineyards. It is a stunning vineyard, located on the Silverado Trail east of Oakville, California in the Napa Valley Wine Region. As you may well imagine, it produces equally stunning wines.
The name for Silverado Vineyards comes from an old abandoned mining town at the far end of the Napa Valley. It’s an appropriate symbol representing three generations of the Miller family who are still “prospecting” for wine by coaxing something as precious from the soils that are in their care. To that end, through the years the family has nurtured the land, their vines and the wine they produced to become a recognized symbol of excellence.
With a strong sense of responsibility to their community, employees, and the environment, a 100% of their vineyards use sustainable farming practices and 50% of the winery is powered by solar panels. They are continually looking for better ways to be good stewards of the land and the people they affect.
To quote them; “For us, sustainable is not simply a farming method, it’s an approach to all of our activities. It’s the driving force behind everything we do to ensure that this winery and estate are here for generations for our customers, neighbors and our family to enjoy.” I would say that is so very well said. I’m so glad they feel that way, and I too look forward to many years visiting and spending time at their vineyard.
This is what the winemaker has to say about their Silverado Vineyards Estate Sangiovese:
“Our Silverado Vineyards Estate Sangiovese is hard to grow, but fun to drink. Our Soda Creek Ranch’s rocky, weak soils tame Sangiovese’s natural vigor. We sculpt clusters for optimal ripening. No aggressive pump-overs or pressing in the winery help us keep the pure, fresh fruit flavors that we think make Sangiovese so charming.”
Silverado Vineyards Estate Sangiovese can be found on their website or wine.com, totalwine.com, bevmo.com or many wine markets and wine purveyors. Don’t be afraid to ask for it.
As we shared this Silverado Vineyards Estate Sangiovese, we reminisced about our past experiences at this winery and the surrounding area. It is a place we love to visit and for good reason. It gorgeous and the food and wines are just as fantastic. Salud.
Time for a glass…
