I’ve had a few questions about my food page, so I thought I would take a moment to tell you how and why it came to be. Then there is the obvious question – what is my food page about?
My Food Page
One of the questions many of my readers ask is, what was behind my including recipes on my Website/Blog? As it was with my wine page, it was a happy accident. I’d written a post about Halloween called the “Scary House.” In that post, I mentioned an experience my brother and I had with Warm Cinnamon Donuts & Hot Spiced Cider. Much to my surprise I received a request from a reader for the two recipes. At that time, I didn’t have a place to post recipes, much less to send them to a reader. A reader and friend suggested I just create a post and figure out how to build a page later. It took me forever to find the requested recipes. The images were quite another story; they weren’t very good. Regardless, I forged on and wrote my very first food/recipe post. That was the humble beginnings of my food page.
My food and recipe philosophy is simple. I’m all about great recipes that are quick and easy to make, using the best ingredients I can, with a finished product that looks attractive and tastes great too. It’s a tall order, but one worthy of my time and effort. Like many, I have a very busy life and want to maximize my time whenever I can. Therefore, I’m always in search of recipes that are delicious, look incredible and are very easy to make. When I can’t find what I want, I create my own. Over the years, I’ve compiled a large number of recipes from every imaginable source, many of which have been my creations.
Because of the volume of recipes I had amassed, there was a problem. Whenever I wanted to make one of these recipes I would find myself hunting them down, which took more time than necessary. Sometimes it took longer to find the recipe than it did to make it. The fact that we have an extensive cookbook library certainly exacerbated the problem. To fix that problem, I started collecting each recipe, creating a document with all the modifications and notes and putting them in a manila file folder. The intent was to make it easy to find a recipe when I needed it. That file folder grew, was expanded and replaced MANY times.
Fast forward to today, with the help of my assistant, Kristi Morgan, and my editor, Jeri Walker, I’ve started a cookbook project to produce a book of all our family’s favorite recipes. The primary goal is to make it handy to find and use a recipe when the need arises. The best part of this project is I can then share that cookbook with you.
All the recipes on my food page are ones we’ve made many times over. Over the years, these recipes have been modified, revised and refined many times to our taste. I hope you find them as easy, fun and as good as we do. Many of the posted recipes on my food page will be a part of my upcoming cookbook.
When you think about it, “Finding Our Way Now” is all about life which includes the enjoyment of good food, our favorite beverages (alcoholic or not) and a bit of conversation thrown in. As a result, it made perfect sense to include and to continue to add recipes to my website.
Last of all and for a bit of fun, check out a few of my recipes on my Food Page that have accumulated on my website over time. Who knows, you might just find a recipe or two to share with your family and friends. Enjoy.
Time to get cooking…
