My friend, Patricia Weber at prostradegies.com, had mentioned Ménage à Trois Red Wine as something I should try and maybe even review. So I thought why not. I bought my bottle of wine at Trader Joe’s and called my neighbor to ask if she would care to share the inexperience. It took her all, but a second to be at my door. We had a great time with this wine and found it to be just as fun as my friend had been expressing.
Trinchero Family Estates: Ménage à Trois Red Wine
So where does the name come from? The phrase “Ménage à Trois” literally translates into a “household of three.” It is a fun, catchy label that refers to a blending of three different grape varietals to make their wine. The vintner says; “With each of our playful blends of three, there’s no doubt that the whole is greater (and more fun) than the sum of its parts.” In other words by blending three different grape varietals it brings three things; passion, fun and excitement to the wine drinking experience, Ménage à Trois Red Wine.
Ménage à Trois Red Wine is a product of the Trinchero Family Estates. They have been in the wine business for over 60 years ago. John and Mario Trinchero traveled to St. Helena, California located in the Napa Valley growing region in 1947 where they purchased Sutter Home Winery. Since their first harvest in 1948, they have become one of the world’s leading producers of fine wines. Another interesting fact is Sutter Home also became the first North Coast winery to produce commercial wine from the Sierra Foothills.
The Trinchero family is credited with developing (for its time) the revolutionary White Zinfandel varietal. With innovation, creativity, and a bit of luck, they were able to capitalize on the growing demand for White Zinfandel. This then expanded Sutter Home even further as a recognized brand.
In the early years, the Trinchero family continued its efforts in producing high-quality, affordably priced wines by purchasing many more California vineyards in prime wine grape growing regions. As it grew, the family never lost sight of Sutter Home’s original philosophy, to offer a great wine at a fair price. It now has over 21 labels in its family of brands. Three of which are Ménage à Trois, SeaGlass and Sutter Home.
Here, is what the winemaker has to say about Ménage à Trois Red Wine:
“Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top, we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.
Tasting Notes: Our 2010 Ménage à Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam-like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.
