It was one of those nights where a friend and I just needed a unique and different place to relax. We decided on a new chef owned restaurant that was in an older building with tons of character. Of course, we had to have a bottle of wine. The server gave us a recommendation based on what we had chosen for our entrees. Enter La Follette Pinot Noir North Coast. It was a very enjoyable wine, and it did indeed go well with our meals.
La Follette Pinot Noir North Coast
La Follette Winery was established in 2008 and is located in Healdsburg, California. It is a small Sonoma County winery that strongly believes you should let the vineyard speak through the finished wine. Their vineyards/grapes are located in various areas of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. La Follette focuses on crafting wines that truly allow the grape expression to shine through. This is reflected in their preference to produce small lots of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from their vineyards.
Greg La Follette, La Follette’s winemaker, believes that crafting exceptional wines is one of the highest forms of artistic expression. The winery is continually challenged to keep their wines more affordable than other handcrafted California wines.
An important note; Greg Follette is one of the country’s leading authorities on Pinot Noir, crafting some of California’s most acclaimed wines.
This is what the winemaker has to say about the La Follette Pinot Noir North Coast:
“The 2011 greets with a symphony of red fruit aromatics, complimented by notes of forest floor and cinnamon bark. With time in the glass, raspberry and rose petals emerge. From the start, the wine caresses the palate, balanced by fruity acidity and supple tannins. The creamy mouthfeel speaks to the slow and steady secondary fermentation in the barrel. The finish is marked by pomegranate fruit/tannin balance. A complete and palate-pleasing rendition of coastal Pinot Noir.”
My friend and I enjoyed our meal and the complement of this wine. It’s a restaurant we would repeat, as we would the wine.
La Follette Pinot Noir North Coast would go nicely with my Dry Rub Ribs, Meatloaf & Redskin Potatoes.
You can find La Follette Pinot Noir North Coast on their website, wine.com, totalwine.com, amazon.com and most any quality wine outlet. Just ask your local wine buyer. Enjoy!
