Wente Winery and Vineyards is one of my very favorite wineries. Partly because it’s in a beautiful location, it has a great restaurant, and the wines are simply out of this world. I have many favorites that I enjoy, one of these being their Nth collection. Today I’ll showcase a bottle wine I’d been saving. That wine is the Wente Winery Nth Degree Syrah 2003. It’s the reason I’m one of their wine club members.
Wente Winery Nth Degree Syrah
Wente Winery has been in existence for over 125 years. It is one of oldest, continuously operated, family-owned wineries in the US. It is still operated by the Wente family, now into their fourth and fifth generations of wine making.
C. H. Wente was a first-generation immigrant from Germany, who founded the Wente Vineyards in 1883 in Livermore Valley, California. He saw the potential in the Livermore Valley for growing wine grapes, where he purchased his first 48 acres for planting a vineyard. The vineyard continued to grow and now includes over 3,000 acres in the Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay and in Arroyo Seco of Monterey. They have been steadfast in maintaining and blending tradition with innovation in their winemaking since they first began. They are especially proud of their efforts in maintaining sustainable farming practices in their vineyards. All this has resulted in an outstanding portfolio of fine wines.
So where does the Label name come from? The “Nth Degree” simply means they go to the nth degree to make as good a wine as is possible.
Wente Winery public winetasting room is conveniently located next to their amazing restaurant, golf course and an event center where they host concerts by the likes of Cheryl Crow and John Fogerty. They also provide a Cave Tour & Tastings on Saturday and Sundays for a small fee.
Wente Winery is one of those wineries where you could go and spend a nice afternoon, have an awesome lunch, do some wine tasting, tour their wine caves, and even go to a concert, maybe even play a little golf (if that is your pleasure) and then wine tasting again… just saying.
This is what the Wente Winery Winemaker has to say about this wine.
“This Syrah has rich aromas and flavors of dark berry, chocolate, coffee, honey and spice. Forward yet well-structured tannins complement the toasted oak, yielding a full-bodied wine with a rich, lingering finish.”
To say I loved this wine is an understatement. It’s amazingly good, even after all this time. Unfortunately, their Nth Degree wines are only available to wine club members. Not to fear, their Petit Syrah is just as amazing and worth a try.
You can find Wente Wines at; wine.com, totalwines.com, amazon.com, Costco, BevMo.com, and many grocery stores or wine markets.
What are some of your favorite wines? I would love to hear and showcase your suggestions.
Time for a glass…
