I am always in search of a fast and easy starter for a meal. So, what else is new … huh. One that I can serve when we have guests over or one that I can throw together and have on the spur of the moment, just for fun. This Baked Brie Cheese with Honey is one of these recipes. It has all my favorite components; Brie cheese, clover honey, almonds, and garnish with an herb of choice.
I initially found a version of this recipe on a recipe card at Nugget our local market in the fine cheese section of the store. I also found something very similar on the Food Network Website. Both were pretty much the same and just as good. Here is my creation.
Baked Brie with Honey
Ingredients:
- 1 wedge of a good quality Brie cheese, about 8 to 12 ounces
- 3 to 4 tablespoons of clover honey (lavender honey if you can find it)
- 3 to 4 tablespoons sliced toasted almonds or pine nuts
- Chives, Tarragon or edible flowers for garnish
- Toasted baguette slices
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place brie in a pretty baking dish. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with the toasted almonds. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Serve with toasted baguette slices.
Notes: Different favors of honey make a subtle difference in the taste. I have tried this with almonds and pine nuts, but walnuts or pecans would work just as well. The firmness of the Brie makes a difference in the cooking time. I generally use a medium firm Brie.
Yep, that’s it. It’s no muss no fuss, and it’s such a delicious starter or hors d’oeuvre for any occasion. Heck, just make it for yourself when you need a pick me up. In any case, you can’t go wrong.
I usually serve it some whole almonds on the side for a little extra touch. This is really good with a nice wine such as Liberty School Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy.
