On the 1st Day From My Kitchen, I give to you, my Rustic Apple Pear Tart Recipe. This is the time of year when we see some great apples and pears. Not far from where we live there is an apple festival called “Apple Hill” that goes from just after Labor Day to the end of December. As the name implies, it’s all about apples and the fall harvest. After all the candy and Halloween celebrations, I thought it would be a good idea to do a simple fruit recipe that is fun to make and a bit healthier, not to mention lower in calories for us then Halloween candy… just saying. 🙂 Pears are pretty plentiful right now, so a pear recipe seemed to be just the right thing to do. I drink milk every day. I use it with my homemade granola in the morning for a quick breakfast. The problem is I never finish the half-gallon of milk before it goes bad and I wind up throwing it away. I decided that the solution might be to use powdered milk instead. That way I can make what I need and not waste so much milk. Don’t you think that sounds like it would work? Well, it did, but I just didn’t like the way the milk tasted. So I experimented and found a way to make it taste the way I like, and it almost tastes like the milk I buy at the store.
