Twisted River Winery Primitivo: #Wine

by Susan P. Cooper · on Jun 22, 2014 · 22

Twisted River Winery, findingourwaynow.comAw, this Twisted River Winery Primitivo was a very pleasant surprise. Not very long ago we had some great friends visit us for a week of fun, food and wine. One of the places we visited was Husick’s Country Store in Clarksburg, California. It is a charming place where I found this Twisted River Winery Primitivo. As it turns out, Twisted Rivers Winery is local vintner, and the Husick’s Country Store is the only place that I could find, where you can taste and purchase their wine.

Twisted River Winery Primitivo

Twisted River Winery, findingourwaynow.comTwisted Rivers Winery, owned and operated by Duke Heringer, is located in the Clarksburg Wine region of California. The Heringer family, originally from Holland, is one of the original founding families of the Clarksburg Delta region. Now in the fifth generation, they have continuously farmed in this community for well over 150 years. They started growing wine grapes in the mid-1970’s, selling their grapes to the many wineries within the region. As it happens with many growers, they embarked on producing their own wine under their own label.

Clarksburg is unique among many of the small California towns in that many of the descendants of the founding families who settled in the area still live there to this day. Along with a thriving wine industry in the area, has allowed Clarksburg to thrive and to maintain its wonderful small-town charm.

This is what the winemaker has to say about their Twisted River Winery Primitivo:

Twisted River Winery, findingourwaynow.com“This bright Primitivo rides high on the plane with strawberry and cherry fruit. The bottle opens with a nice floral bouquet with a natural balanced acid profile, revealing a complex wine with multiple layers of flavor. The boutique region of Clarksburg is represented well through this refreshingly perfect glass of wine.

Twisted Rivers Primitivo is a refreshingly delicious red. The floral aroma hits first, followed by layered tastes of spice and berries. Although complex, the wine is medium bodied and very drinkable. A wonderful wine, it is well balanced with firm acids and tannins, and pairs perfectly with rich and spicy foods.”

They are a boutique winery that produces small batches of a very high-quality wine. Unfortunately, that means the only place you can find their wine is at the Husick’s Country Store, some local restaurants, or you can call and purchase their wine by phone. It’s worth the effort.

I love these small boutique vintners. The reason is the vintners passion for producing high-quality wine and how it shines through their product. Such is the case with this Twisted River Winery Primitivo; I would venture to say their other vintages are just as good. It was not a hard choice to buy a few bottles, with a planned trip to purchase more.

Time for a glass…
